Ingram Micro Hosts Inaugural Women of Technology Event
Ingram Micro Welcomes Customers and Technology Partners to Buffalo to Encourage More Women and Girls to Build Careers Within the Technology Industry
BUFFALO, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 07/28/14 -- A group of Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM) customers and colleagues will gather at the Park Country Club in Buffalo, N.Y., on Thursday, July 31, to celebrate the contributions of women in the IT industry and discuss what the industry can do to help encourage a more diverse workforce to take advantage of the opportunity found in IT.
More than 50 Ingram Micro customers, select technology partners and associates, along with top female Ingram Micro executives, are expected to attend the inaugural Ingram Micro Women of Technology event, which is being held as part of the week's activities leading to the 19th annual Ingram Micro Charity Golf Tournament set for Sat. Aug. 2, at The Links at Ivy Ridge. The group will discuss how to encourage more women to explore careers in the fast-paced and exciting technology industry, as well as hearing for keynote speaker JJ DiGeronimo, a technology executive, author, speaker and STEM -- science, technology, engineering and math -- advocate who shares leadership strategies for professional women.
"Those of us who enjoy rewarding careers in the technology industry want to encourage more of our female peers and girls to explore the opportunities found in this business," says Susan O'Sullivan, executive director of Sales for Ingram Micro, and host of the event. "Our goal with the Women of Technology event is to foster conversation, nurture networking and mentoring, and generally celebrate the contributions of women in our industry while brainstorming ways we can inspire more women and girls to join our ranks.
"We are committed to a diverse workforce at Ingram Micro, and this is one way we are striving to increase visibility into the opportunities within our company, the Consumer Electronics and IT industries."
The group will honor those attendees who lead by example through Mentorship, Philanthropic Involvement, Diversity Engagement and exemplary personal character during the Women of Technology awards ceremony.
Additionally, in support of women in the Buffalo region, attendees were asked to bring clean, "gently used" professional clothing items to be donated to a local charity dedicated to promoting the economic independence of disadvantaged women.
