In this newly created role, Gifford will have comprehensive responsibility for all elements of the company's distribution centers and supply-chain operations throughout the world, including the Ingram Micro Logistics fee-for-service business unit.  Reporting to Alain Monie, president and chief operating officer, Ingram Micro Inc., Gifford will become a member of the worldwide executive team and officer of the corporation.

"Robert's appointment moves us significantly closer to creating a cohesive, global logistics network that is unmatched in our industry," said Monie.  "Connecting our 103 distribution centers, scores of sourcing and transportation relationships, and outsourced logistics expertise under a single leader allows us to develop the most effective and efficient global supply-chain network for our customers and clients worldwide.  We will be better equipped to serve clients who want an end-to-end supply-chain partner that oversees products from the point of manufacturing to end-user delivery and through the returns process.  Robert has more than 30 years of experience optimizing supply-chain operations for some of the world's leading companies, and we're confident he will be able to transform our current logistics presence into a thriving global franchise."

Gifford  joins Ingram Micro after six years at Ecolab, Inc., a leading manufacturer and distributor serving the hospitality, institutional and industrial markets, where he optimized 37 manufacturing plants and 84 distribution sites as senior vice president, global supply chain.  Previously, he was vice president of worldwide logistics for the Hewlett-Packard Company, where he was responsible for a multi-billion dollar logistics operation encompassing everything from vendor selection and transportation to contracts and compliance.

"I'm excited about the prospect of building a global logistics capability for a company as respected and renowned as Ingram Micro," said Gifford.  "No other distributor in technology has the supply-chain breadth and geographic reach.  I look forward to building upon this strong, yet fragmented, distribution network to create a streamlined, powerful supply chain for hundreds of thousands of customers throughout the world."

Gifford earned a bachelor of science degree in manufacturing management from San Jose State University in California and an MBA from Texas A&M University.  He plans to relocate from the Minneapolis area to Southern California.
